While in Alaminos in the Philippines, I was invited to E-Kawayan Processing Center - a first-of-its-kind factory for engineered bamboos which opened in 2012. This bamboo center is producing stunning bamboo products while employing talented local craftsmen and designers. I was shown the bamboo shaping process and even got to have a go! Additionally, the factory has started massive bamboo planting in the region, making it another source of living for farmers in rural areas of Alaminos and Western Pangasinan.
